MuscleSound assesses ‘Muscle Energy Status’ (MES) – a source of muscle energy production that is composed of muscle glycogen and associated muscle fluid. Research has shown that there are best practices and guidelines as to WHEN to measure Muscle Fuel to get the best, most accurate results.

Optimal Times to use MuscleSound

  1. MuscleSound can be used pre- and immediately post-exercise. This has been validated by two peer-reviewed studies in major journals.
  2. MuscleSound can be used no less than several hours after the end of moderate to high intensity/long duration steady state exercise (such as cycling) that does not involve extensive eccentric contractions.
  3. MuscleSound can be used a minimum of two days after high intensity/long duration sports such as soccer, football, rugby, and basketball.
  4. MuscleSound can be used one to two days before a competition to ensure Muscle Fuel is adequate.

NOTE: More than 50 professional sports team including football, soccer, cycling and hockey have adopted this last approach.

Sub-Optimal Times to use MuscleSound

  1. MuscleSound should not be used within several hours of the end of moderate to high intensity/long duration steady state exercise.
  2. MuscleSound should not be used within two days of the end of moderate to high intensity/long duration exercise that includes significant eccentric contractions such as running (especially downhill) or plyometric, rebounding-type exercises.
  3. MuscleSound should not be used the day after high intensity/long duration competition in sports such as soccer, football, rugby, and basketball.

NOTE: The unique value of MuscleSound is that data from all assessments are stored securely in the cloud. This enables patterns of usage and recovery to be tracked and analyzed over time.
