Maximizing Game Readiness in Division 1 College Football

The University of Georgia men’s football team utilizes MuscleSound for immediate and actionable information on their players’ readiness for competition. In the world of competitive college football, achieving optimal performance is a difficult task. Today’s student-athletes face considerable stresses with the demands on the field and in the classroom. Proper nutrition and consistent sleep schedules can be specific challenges to the readiness of this group of athlete.

The above chart highlights the overall levels of high, moderate, and low Muscle Energy Status we have seen from Georgia as the season has progressed. You will notice a large concentration of high to moderate scan values from most of the weeks thus far. This would indicate the team’s overall game readiness protocols are likely working as intended, and student-athletes are rested and fueled in an appropriate manner.

It is interesting to note that, along with maintaining a moderate level of fuel throughout this season (something that we have seen to be a significant challenge in Div 1 college football and the NFL), Georgia has managed to elevate their scan values for several weeks to what MuscleSound categorizes as a high level of fuel (an especially difficult task within the grind of the season).

Taking a look in more detail, we see that Georgia has elevated their performance levels as well. The team’s second game likely resulted in the most important win of the season thus far on the road at Notre Dame (currently ranked #3 in the CFP rankings), and week 8’s dismantling of fellow SEC powerhouse and bitter rival Florida Gators was the biggest win in the rivalry game known as “The Cocktail Party” since 1982. Both of these weeks coincided with the highest levels of team Estimated Fuel Level we have seen thus far. Georgia is currently undefeated at 9-0 and stands #1 in the College Football Playoff rankings!
